I asked the same question a few weeks back. uk.answers.yahoo.com/ question/ index;_ylt= Ak82bXzG1B3qGSa9ChcikDEgBgx.;_ylv= 3?qid= 20080517120359AA11krN To those of you that say they don't want adverts, what about the adverts for their own shows? Surely adverts are adverts whatever they are for. It's about time they were self-funded and/ or stop paying absurd amounts of money to the presenters. They make enough money from the phone-in voting for the reality shows to survive without the licence. It's just another fee for us to pay in rip-off Britain. |

Its to fund the BBC which have no ads. (BBC TV and Radio) I prefer the licence over ads on BBC Radio 1 and BBC TV |

It's wrong. It's not like an extra TV is costing the govt anything. |

This is an old argument. I'm happy to pay the licence fee for the service the BBC provides (remember, it's not just BBC1 and 2, it's all of the BBC radio channels too including World Service), and love getting films and dramas with no adverts cutting into them to spoil the mood. |

What? of course it's fair the BBC doesn't have adverts and subsequently, we have to pay for it? who else should fund it? Do you want it to come out of people's taxes so everyone has to pay for it weather they own a TV or not. |

I pay it and it is for the BBC which is great. They don't show adverts, i would rather have a licence than pay a £1000 fine........... |

We only pay tv licence for all things BBC where there are no adverts. True they show a lot of reruns but the argument is think what you get for it. This is an argument that has been going on for years and will go on for years to come. I'm not sure that I would more adverts on tv but I do know I would be happy not to pay my tv licence (its too blooming expensive) and I do enjoy watching films without adverts in them. Dont forget the tv license pays the actors/ actresses, sets, lighting, djs etc. |

Yes very unfair, if you have a T.V you have to pay for bbc if you watch it or not you should be given the option to opt out |

Your right...I think it is ridiculous...unfair, also considering in England all of the taxes, council tax, road tax..............national insurance.....give us a break.....its doesn't make sense. we listen to the radio for free......there is no licence for that. |

I also think its unfair. They should be made to abolish it & made to have adverts.I seldom watch BBC so do not see why I should have to pay the fee. |

The BBC has some of the best television in the world and is hugely respected everywhere in terms of quality viewing, just think of the nature programmes, documentaries. I don't like paying a tv license but I do love the BBC and I love that there are no adverts and not having 4 minutes of trash stuffed into every half hour programme or programmes being 'sponsored'. We are lucky to have advert free channels here in the UK, even if it does cost a small amount to watch them. |

NO, it's about a pint a week and look at the service you get : BBC 1, BBC 2, BBC 3, BBC 4, BBC News, BBC Politics, the kids channels, Interactive TV, the Web site (inc. BBCi player) all the radio stations and all with no irritating ******* adverts. |

I would rather not pay TV licence. To be honest i don't listen to bbc radio or really watch the channels. So i think its about time there was a reform on that. |

It will never change because the BBC is the Governments propaganda machine so it can't or won,t ever be independent |

No. because at the moment there are so many repeats on. I think we should all pay as we view. Not get much out of me then. |
