Although i am familiar with analogue radio, the terms and propagation characteristics of digital satellites seem to confuse me which is why i am here asking a few questions . I recently acquired a DISH NETWORK Dish 500 satellite dish. I do not plan on using this for TV reception however. I plan on using this dish for vhf and some uhf amateur radio operation mostly receiving but transmitting may be used assuming i will stick with just receiving, my first question is Can this dish be used Un modified for receive on the 140 148 and or 420 448mhz range? my second question is if it cannot be used un modified, what modifications will i have to make? like different coaxial cable, a different helix feed, etc. if I can use this dish for receiving, it will be attic mounted i know that hurts performance alot at about 25 feet, 90 degree skew and zero degrees of elevation, i will be using 75 ohm belden t 1829ac coaxial cable rated for 2.25 ghz is this the right kind? my final question is can i transmit on the same frequencies using the same setup? i wont be running more than 30 watts
