Question: Why do i need to purchase a protection plan for the satellite equipment i was told i do not own?

I called the satellite tv company because my satellite receiver quit working. I was told this would be subject to hourly fees to repair or I would need to purchase a new receiver, because I did not purchase a protection plan. I was told when I original subscribed to this service that I could only lease the satellite equipment. Do I really have to insure property I do not own? They also told me that I could do nothing but I would continue to be charged for a service that without the receiver is useless. Can someone help me?

When you rent a house, you're still responsible for it if someone damages a wall, right? Same idea here.

No, insurance/ protection plans are a waste of money. They have to replace a malfunctioning reciever (equipment) but you may be responsible for installation. Save your money, and find a local installer here: sathookup.com/ satellite-network/ index.php for when you need satellite repair.
